Women’s football powerhouse Australia start their World Cup campaign with a game against Italy at Stade du Hainaut.

The teams: Australia and Italy

How they qualified:

Australia – World Ranking 6
qualified for the world cup courtesy of their deep run in the last edition of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup. They entered the tournament in magnificent form and were the better team in the scoreless draw against South Korea. That result followed up by an 8-0 rout of Vietnam and the 1-1 draw in the final group game against Japan was enough to win the world cup ticket to France.

Italy – World Ranking 15
had a wonderful qualifying campaign, winning 7 times out of the first 7 matches to top Group 6. Their sole defeat came against Belgium, a match which had no bearing over the final positions in the group.

Switzerland Team News:
Changes are expected from Switzerland in this match. It will be interesting to see whether Premier League superstars Xherdan Shaqiri and Granit Xhaka start here. Both the players faded in the 2nd half and lacked the energy. They could be replaced here.
If that happens, head coach Vladimir Petković will look for Josip Drmic, Renato Steffen and Edimilson Fernandes.
We again expect a three-man backline from the Swiss with Fabian Schar, Manuel Akanji and Ricardo Rodriguez all starting at the back.
But there will certainly be a change at the wing-back, especially on the right side with Kevin Mbabu getting replaced by Michael Lang. The 24-year-old BSC Young Boys defender struggled against Cristiano Ronaldo. Well, most have in their careers!

If Steven Zuber drops down to the bench, Renato Steffen could replace him.

Switzerland Probable XI: Mvogo; Elvedi, Schar, Rodriguez; Lang, Sow, Fernandes, Moubandje; Steffen, Drmic, Zakaria

England team News:
Expect Gareth Southgate to ring in changes here as well with the likes of Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Jese Lingard all coming into the side.
Though Gareth Southgate is safe, he could still come under some pressure if England fail against Switzerland.
Jack Butland is pushing for a start and may replace Jordan Pickford in goal. Though the Everton man had a good game despite leaking three goals, It was mostly down to his teammates’ freebies.
The centre-back position should see a change. Liverpool’s Joe Gomez is fit now and could partner Everton’s Michael Keane, replacing John Stones and Harry Maguire at the back. Stones, in particular, was awful on the night against the Dutch.
While Trent Alexander-Arnold and Danny Rose will potentially come into the wing-back positions.

Probable XI: Butland (GK), Alexander-Arnold, Keane, Gomez, Rose; Dier, Henderson, Alli, Lingard, Kane, Wilson
